About
“Eaters…must understand that eating takes place inescapably in the world, that it is inescapably an agricultural act, and that how we eat determines, to a considerable extent, how the world is used.” —Wendell Berry
I am a skilled reporter, writer, and editor who has been covering the American food system for more than a decade. My expertise is in telling stories that illustrate how food production and consumption are connected to environmental impact, public health, and justice. I am currently a senior staff reporter and contributing editor at Civil Eats . In addition to my recent investigative work, I now report daily news stories on federal food policy from Washington, D.C.
My stories have appeared in numerous publications (online and in print) including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, Mother Jones, Eater, Edible Manhattan, and Saveur. For three years, I also I also hosted and produced more than 100 episodes of The Farm Report on Heritage Radio Network.

I have a master's degree in Magazine Journalism from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Northeastern University.
